For this session, we moved on to Adobe Illustrator CC to create Fabric Board. Similarly to Photoshop, I had to create a new document in landscape to work on. At first, I had the opportunity to try out Rectangle Tool and drawn shapes like rectangle, rounded rectangle, circle, polygon, star and flare (As picture shown below).
Secondly, I tried out the Pathfinder to combine vector objects to create shapes in variety of ways in Adobe Illustrator CC. The resulting paths or shapes differ depending on the method that I used from Pathfinder Tool to combine objects.
Lastly, I did class exercise with Pen Tool to draw shapes and curves.
Home work
For this week's homework, we got to recreate the final fabric board with given contents from Blackboard.
Final Fabric Board
Research
Pathfinder effects Tool allow us to combine multiple objects using interaction modes. However, when using Pathfinder effects, we can not edit the interactions between objects.
Compound shapes allow us to combine multiple objects and specify how we want each object to interact with other objects.
Compound paths allow us to use an object to cut a hole in another object.
Pathfinder panel
Use the top row of buttons in the panel to make paths or compound paths. To make compound shapes, use the buttons in those rows while pressing the Alt or Option key.
Choose from the following shape modes:
Adds the area of the component to the underlying geometry.
Cuts out the area of the component from the underlying geometry.
Uses the area of the component to clip the underlying geometry as a mask would.
Exclude Overlapping Shape Areas
Uses the area of the component to invert the underlying geometry, turning filled regions into holes and vice versa.
Use the bottom row of buttons in the panel, called Pathfinder effects, to create final shape combinations on the first click.
Shape modes
A. All components in Add mode B. Subtract mode applied to squares C. Intersect mode applied to squares D. Exclude mode applied to squares
