Final blog post

For this session, I translated my fashion illustration into technical flat using Adobe Illustrator CC.

The garment is hip hop style with modern flapper design. I added stitch line to the collar and around the armhole area with invisible zipper at center back.

The key to this exercise was to establish links between my fashion illustration drawing and technical flat translate it correctly with Adobe Illustrator CC. Reflecting, starting with doing what is necessary, subsequently thinking of what are possible steps to improve my technical flat. This exercise pushed us to expand our mind and to think creatively without excluding any thought as impossible during our thought process. I will keep an open mind in the future because nothing is truly impossible as we learned from activity

Week Six

For this session, we moved on to Adobe Illustrator CC to create Fabric Board. Similarly to Photoshop, I had to create a new document in landscape to work on. At first, I  had the opportunity to try out Rectangle Tool and drawn shapes like rectangle, rounded rectangle, circle, polygon, star and flare (As picture shown below).

Secondly, I tried out the Pathfinder to combine vector objects to create shapes in variety of ways in Adobe Illustrator CC. The resulting paths or shapes differ depending on the method that I used from Pathfinder Tool to combine objects.

Lastly, I did class exercise with Pen Tool to draw shapes and curves.

Home work

For this week's homework, we got to recreate the final fabric board with given contents from Blackboard.

Research

Pathfinder effects Tool allow us to combine multiple objects using interaction modes. However, when using Pathfinder effects, we can not edit the interactions between objects.

Compound shapes allow us to combine multiple objects and specify how we want each object to interact with other objects.

Compound paths allow us to use an object to cut a hole in another object.

Use the top row of buttons in the panel to make paths or compound paths. To make compound shapes, use the buttons in those rows while pressing the Alt or Option key.
Choose from the following shape modes:

Add To Shape Area
Adds the area of the component to the underlying geometry.

Subtract from Shape Area
Cuts out the area of the component from the underlying geometry.

Intersect Shape Areas
Uses the area of the component to clip the underlying geometry as a mask would.

Exclude Overlapping Shape Areas
Uses the area of the component to invert the underlying geometry, turning filled regions into holes and vice versa.
Use the bottom row of buttons in the panel, called Pathfinder effects, to create final shape combinations on the first click.

Week Five

For this week session, we did a practice test on Mood Board. I had to recreate the Final Mood Board by using test contents from my lecturer. Reflecting, I took this test as an opportunity for me to know which Photoshop functions I have not mastered and encourage myself to focus learning on my weak areas, and Photoshop functions I have already mastered. So I can direct my learning to other areas and spend minimal further time on the Photoshop functions I already know. Taking a test does not just measure how much I know, it helps reinforce the learning. It's a surprising fact that this practice test can actually be more beneficial to learning than spending same amount of time learning.
